Welcome to 5th Grade Science! We will be working in stations using pencil/paper, Chromebooks, interactive notebooks, and Google Classroom. It will be inquiry-based learning. There will be a considerable amount of research and collaboration during the day. Working together is an important component needed for each child to be successful. Students need to be able to cooperate and compromise which will help to prepare them for the future.
There will be experiments, activities, and projects to help foster growth and understanding. Helping your child may be needed in some of these areas as well as studying for assessments.
Please set aside time to keep abreast of what your child is doing as well as what is coming in the future. Be sure to access both the planner and this website for future additions. Take the time to read what has already be placed on this site. Nobody likes surprises when it comes to deadlines.
Projects are required in science class. Students are not expected to spend money to complete it. There are a number of ways to complete the projects without spending money. If finding resources is difficult, please have your child contact me for help. I do not grade on whether the child spends money or not to complete a project. I am looking for the understanding of the project topic.
If your child is absent, please notify the school in the morning if you would like the assignments sent home via another child or yourself at the end of the day. This gives us time to prepare and explain what is needed to successfully make up missed assignments. We may not have enough time if you call in the afternoon as we are instructing.
Exciting things will be taking place! Let the journey begin!
